Bar Cafe Chanson in De Pere

Cafe Chanson has an interesting layout. If you enter in the back way, you face the restaurant part. If you enter through the front, you face the bar part. As we walked down the hallway toward the bar we noticed that we were the only classy bar flys around. Upon taking our seats at the bar, the bartender greeted us and gave us some drink menus to peruse. He was super friendly and very attentive. The drink menu is quite expansive. Their wine list offers different and unique reds, whites, and bubblies. And, yes, many of your choices are French. The prices for wines start at $6; the wines we chose were $9. The bartender even offered us a sample to make sure we would enjoy our choice of red, cool no? Most of the wines can be purchased by the glass, as opposed to bottles only. Cafe Chanson carries limited beer on draught, but offers many more in bottles. The domestic beers start at $3.25. As for the liquor, Cafe Chanson has every kind of liquor possible, so let your imagination run wild with your poison.

The decor at Cafe Chanson is tastefully done. The dark wood bar and shelving, the neutral colored walls, and vintage looking lamps, exudes warmth and coziness. Relax, sport fans, they also have a large flat screen TV hanging up so you won’t miss the action. If you’re looking for a quieter place for some wind down time, Cafe Chanson is a great place to go to. My girlfriend and I simply sat back, relaxed and soaked in the laid back atmosphere.

Gluten Free Cafe

I checked out Kashmir on a sunny Saturday afternoon and was treated to a wonderful chicken breast pakora’s with a beautiful salad. The flavor of the Kashmir menu is cafe style Indian, Thai and Mediterranean food styles. Indian dishes, such as Chicken and Onion Pakoras, Thai dishes, such as chicken satay and fish cakes and Mediterranean dishes such as Chickpea and Zucchini patties, mean that everyone will find something they like.

On the sweeter side I had a lovely real apple Turkish tea and then to investigate the cakes! There are so many to choose from I did not know what to do! All the cakes are baked on site, and therefore are different from your standard range. I have managed eventually to decide on a cranberry cake. It was light, fluffy and fruity.

The home-wares, jewelery and accessories are also fantastic and worth a browse while your food is prepared. Kashmir certainly worth a trip to Redcliffe! Check the details out on our site.

Home Coffee Roasters

1. The Taste of the Roast is in its Smell: Green Coffee beans emit a characteristic “grassy” smell as they turn yellowish few minutes after heat subjection. With further roasting, the beans begin to smoke, like coffee, giving it its peculiar smell and taste.

2. Cracking Sound Gives Good Clue about the Roast Stages: Further roasting gives off a unique crack sound as the bean loses water and changes structure with rising temperature. Listening for this sound can be a fantastic clue to determine desired roasts.

3. Length of Roast Determines Color and Flavor of Beans: Since bean structure, flavor and color graduates with each upward step in temperature, and increasing time, it is not unexpected to observe the original green bean character turn dark, with a stronger flavor, at the end of the process.

Steps to Roasting Coffee at home

Whatever is the technique employed, the instrument used or even the time set, roasting coffee at home all bores down to achieving significant desired flavors.

1: Choose a Roaster: Depending on budget, technique, time or batch size, it can be done in an oven, a skillet, a stovetop popper, or more specialized equipment.

2: Select Coffee Beans: The original pre-roast character of the bean determines the flavor and nutritional quality of the coffee. Although green coffee beans come highly recommended, many others have equally satisfying benefits.

3: Choose the Desired Roast Process: Since the flavor of coffee depends on the process and invariably the roasting time, understanding the different stages will help control the flavor of coffee.

Understanding the Roast Process

Yellowing – Few minutes after the green bean is subjected to heat, it turns yellowish and emits a grassy smell.

First Crack – Soon enough, a crack sound – an audible cracking sound is heard as the real roasting sets in. The sound is an acoustic signal, calling one’s attention to what stage the roast is.

First Roasted Stage – Also known as a City Roast, this stage, determined by sight and smell, can be considered complete depending on desired taste.

Brazilian Coffee

From the span of 1880 to 1930, Brazil had a substantial increase in coffee production. By 1920, Brazil supplied 80% of the world’s coffee (imagine having almost the entire world dependent on you for coffee!). In more recent times, Brazil supplies almost 60% of the world’s total production (still not a bad feat to be producing for more than half the world).

So, why was there such a clamor for Brazilian coffee and why is it still true today? Perhaps it can be credited to their unique picking method. Brazil strip picks it traditionally—this means that they will only make a pass or two on a tree. So if there is uneven ripening, all levels of ripeness are chosen.

But even beyond their traditional picking method, Brazil makes such great tasting coffee because they go the natural and pulped natural method route in terms of processing. If you would ask a regular Brazilian on the street about this method, they might just inform you that this traditional processing for the past 150 years (even before pulping machines were available) has helped create this very unique Brazilian coffee blend of complexity and sweetness.

What many do not realize, however, is that Brazilian coffee is very popular, also because of its great diversity throughout the country. Traditionally and through specialty coffee, Brazilian coffee is known to be nutty, mildly sweet, and full of body. Nowadays, through advancements in processing and sorting, it can be intensely sweet with chocolate and caramel notes and complimentary acidic.

The diversity in Brazilian coffee is also brought about by the different coffee growing regions in the country. In the largest coffee-growing region of Brazil, Minas Gerais covers 50% of the country’s production and produces its main specialty coffee sources. The region of São Paulo, on the other hand, is one of the more traditional areas in Brazil for growing, producing pure Arabica coffee, and home to Port of Santos, where coffee leaves Brazil. Espiritu Santo, another growing region, is second in Brazilian coffee production, with 28% of its coffee being Arabica. The warm climate and high altitude region of Bahia, farms 75% Arabica coffee, while the Parana region grows Arabica coffee exclusively. Lastly, the region of Rodonia is dedicated solely to Conilon or Robusta coffee.

Espresso Advantages

However, there is one part of the coffee that is the best for your health as is described above and that is the fresh flavor that is derived from the coffee beans. The reason that the fresh flavor is the culprit of most of the health benefits is because the freshly brewed coffee beans contain very rich antioxidants that are great for your health.

One of the reasons that espresso is even better for you than regular coffee is a result of the steam being pushed through the ground coffee beans. This occurs so quickly that much of the flavor and antioxidants are in that single cup of espresso.

On the other hand, regular black coffee drinkers may gain some of the benefits from the antioxidants, although the most beneficial cup of coffee to your health that you will ever have is the first cup! After the first cup of the regular coffee is squeezed out then the benefits of the coffee diminish because there are less antioxidants in the second, third, or fourth cups!

Even though many people may disbelieve that espresso is good for your health, many researchers have shown that drinking at least one serving of espresso a day can be beneficial to your health.

However, having an espresso is good on one hand, but doctoring it up with all sorts of sweeteners, creams, and cinnamon is something that will simply lessen the effects of the good benefits of espresso.

Tips Choosing Cheap Meat

Best Beef for Grilling – Flank steaks and skirt steaks. They come off the grill flavorful and tender.
Best Beef for Roasting/Smoking – Chuck roast. Try braising in beer, wine or broth.
Best Beef for Pan Searing – Top sirloin butt. Try pan frying in a half and half mixture off butter and olive oil.

Best Pork for Grilling – Ribs, what can I say?
Best Pork for Roasting/Smoking – Pork shoulder, just cook it low and slow.
Best Pork for Pan Searing – Pork chops. That caramelization is superb.

Best Poultry for Grilling – Chicken leg, the combination of smoke char and dark meat is wonderful.
Best Poultry for Roasting/Smoking – Turkey, buy them on sale at Thanksgiving and freeze a few.
Best Poultry for Pan Searing – Chicken thighs, that meat close to the bone has the best flavor.

Let’s talk tenderizing those cheap cuts of your favorite meat. There are 3 methods of tenderizing meats in the kitchen. First is to pound the heck out of the meat or grind it up. You are trying to break down those fibers in the meat so that it will come apart easier. If this doesn’t work, a less efficient method is marinate. The acid in citrus can help break down those stubborn fibers. But for marinate to be effective, it needs to be injected all through the meat. The last way is to slow cook the meat by stewing boiling or braising. Or try smoking the meat in a wood smoker for several hours.

Here are some of the lesser used cuts.

Chuck eye steak is tougher than an average steak and will require marinate.
Tri-tip or sirloin tip which comes from the hind leg of a cow.
Pork shoulder is best used in soups, stews and smoked low and slow for hours.
Flank steak is good for fajitas and thinly sliced beef recipes.
Oxtails are very bony which imparts good flavor to the meat.
A nice fat turkey can provide for several meals.
Beef short ribs also smoke well and gather flavor from the bone.
Chicken thighs are the best tasting part of the chicken.

Information of Hamdog

The story made me think about other incongruous food combinations. Salads used to be simply lettuce with salad dressing. Over time, other raw vegetables made their way into salads. Now, people commonly put meat in their salad. Thus, we have tuna salad, chicken salad, fish salad, and we also have fruit salad. But “hamdog” seems to have crossed some line of respect. It is a presentation of two different critter meats. I say two, but who really knows what critter is in a hot dog?

Would you go to a fine restaurant and order “lambkin?” That would be lamb with chicken. How about “horsenpfeffer” (horse meat and rabbit stew)? They do eat horse meat in some countries. There is no reason why a meat-on-meat culinary creation cannot come to America from any country if the Australians can send us “hamdog.” In fact, the possibilities of what critter meat is in a hot dog expand greatly when you consider what Australian critter meats might be put in one of those.

My mom likes to eat fried chicken livers. Could “hamdog” inspire the combining of organ meats from different animals? If you are a vegan you may puke at the idea of that. Is vegan puke, combined with the puke of a meat-eater an enhancement of nausea? Maybe we had better take a stand. We should tell the Australians not to send “hamdog” to America, before we must learn to live with the “McHamdog.” If they don’t listen to us, we may have to retaliate. We could send them “gizzard-chitterlings,” which would be cooked bird stomach and hog intestines.

Some Desserts With Coffee

Flavored Ice Pops

Many people only associate ice pops or popsicles with fruit juice or soft drinks. However, these can just as easily be made by using a combination of milk and coffee as well. Instead of making the coffee with water, it should be made with milk, poured into molds and be allowed to set in the freezer for a few hours. Anyone who is allergic to dairy can consider using coconut milk, almond milk or even rice milk as a substitute and still enjoy a cold dessert.

Espresso Brownies

Although these delectable coffee desserts may not be suitable for young children, they will definitely be a hit at an all-adults dinner party. When using any regular brownie recipe, a few tablespoons of any type of finely ground espresso can be used to enhance the flavor substantially, while also adding an interesting twist to what is usually a relatively plain dessert.

Coffee Panna Cotta

This is an extremely smooth and creamy dessert that can be prepared in shaped molds, with a coffee-based and/or brandy sauce that is flambéed over it. The dessert itself can then be garnished with chocolate chips, chocolate-covered coffee beans or even a basic chocolate sauce. If serving to children or non-alcoholics, the brandy can be omitted from the recipe.

Quick Coffee Ice Cream

Beating just 2 cups of heavy cream, adding sweetened condensed milk, chopped nuts and dissolved coffee to the mixture will yield a delicious homemade coffee-flavored ice cream. Once beaten, the mixture will have to be placed in the freezer for a minimum of 4 hours to set fully. Nuts can be omitted if need be and replaced with chopped fruit pieces, chocolate chips, sprinkles or even crushed Oreo cookies.
